The Miles Coffee Bar, located on 4039 East Tremont, is a welcome addition to the neighborhood of Throggs Neck. It's something this part of the Bronx has needed for quite some time: a walk in-grab a huge cup of latte (with art, of course)-get an order of avocado toast-plug in your laptop and sit down for half the day typing away at your laptop-cafe. And while it's absolutely needless to say that New York City has about a zillion of these exact types of coffee shops littered across its streets, what you see here is what you'd usually find somewhere on the Lower East Side or in the only relevant parts of Brooklyn. What The Miles represents is where the Bronx is going, and for anyone who was under the idea that the BX was going to stand around idly as other boroughs progressed socioeconomically are sadly (but thankfully) mistaken. While gentrification will always be a touchy subject, and this is the kind of place that could easily make anyone think about it, truth is: times are changing. For too long the kids who grow up in certain parts of the outer boroughs had to travel into the city to appreciate and take advantage of all that New York City has to offer. And now they're the ones building what they've always wanted in their own neck of the woods. Whether that brings in a new type of clientele into the location isn't the point. The point is that it's a boom for the local businesses as well. And it's a boom for the morale of the locals. With its overwhelmingly white interior and minimal layout and design you'd be hard pressed to find any other coffee shop within walking or driving distance as unique as this one. It also has a small open area towards the back of the store that'll surely come in handy once the summer months start rolling in. The whole place is absolutely adorable, welcoming and the staff is incredibly helpful and sweet. And it would be incredibly selfish and foolish of me not to mention that as you exit The Miles Coffee Bar, on your immediate right, is Tommy's Pizza. And if you're at all serious about eating INCREDIBLE pizza, then do yourself the favor of getting a slice. Welcome to your new favorite block in Throggs Neck.
